Hi! Welcome to Home Theory. We are a family run Design + Renovations Company serving Charlotte Metro. We are constantly heartbroken hearing all the horrible "contractor took my money and ran" stories, fixing all the poor quality work left behind from crews who care more about the paycheck than the people, and the ones who don't follow regulations and leave homeowners with messes behind drywall that they can't even see until it's too late. As a result, we approach the world of construction a whole lot different than most. We believe that if we take care of our clients and our employees like family, the business will take care of itself. We're out to change the experience of home renovations. Read on to meet us and find out 5 things you need to consider before your next remodel.

5 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN REMODELING

HIRE A LICENSED GENERAL CONTRACTOR
In NC, most projects that involve load bearing walls, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or appliances require a permit. This means your average handyman isn't licensed to tackle any of these. In addition, projects over 15k (and as low as 5k in some counties) require permits regardless of the work performed. Unfortunately in NC, anyone can call themselves a contractor and often don't pull permits or ask the homeowner to do so- putting your safety, home, money, and sanity at risk. Licensed GC's have continuing education requirements and extensive testing and oversight by the state to ensure your safety. Licensed GC's carry additional insurances and bonds for another layer of protection for our homeowners. To check the status of your contractor go to: https://portal.nclbgc.org/Public/Search. USE AN EXPERIENCED DESIGNER
Designers aren't a luxury service. Having one with experience can make or break your project. Again, anyone can call themselves a Designer in NC. True constructiontrained Designers manage all the little details you as a homeowner don't even know need to be handled and your GC doesn't have the time to think about. In addition, your construction Designer is there to educate you on the materials- what's going to outlast a family's worth of wear and tear- and balance function with style while considering finances to create your perfect space. We also keep tabs on the construction team, budget, and timeline so you don't have to. All of our renovations include full design services!! BONUS: We offer Design services by the hour for those who like to DIY or have a smaller need and just want a Designer's eyes on their project. Great for paint colors, material selections, layouts, and more. Check out: https://www.hometheoryliving.com/dfad.html
THE MATERIALS MATTER
Of course we all want the best quality and the best price. There's an intersection point where quality and cost meet in construction and it's not often found at the big box stores. Using an experienced team means having your best interest in mind when selecting materials for a renovation. We know which items have plastic or toxic materials hiding inside, which materials will not hold up to daily use, and can even recommend recycled, greenfriendly, and mold-prevention materials (think bathrooms!). Quality materials typically have lower off gassing VOC's, last longer to prevent adding to landfill waste, and will be a far better investment for your hard earned dollars over time.
KEEPING YOUR FAMILY SAFE
Construction is an inherently loud, messy, dusty, and chaotic environment. Our team has always been rooted in the commitment to safety for all. Our main client base is families- often with health concerns or small children/elderly parents living in the home. There's a lot that can be done to improve the air quality and safety in the home while renovations take place. First, our team sets up dust curtains around the work area to significantly reduce the amount of debris. Every job site is fitted with industrial air scrubbers to pull even more dust out of the construction site. This keeps your ducts cleaner and your air safer. Microparticles- especially drywall dust- can aggravate many health conditions. We are happy to even ask our crews to leave their snacks and lunch outside if there's food allergies in the home. Anything we can do to help protect your family, we are open to discussing.
STRESS ISN'T GOOD FOR ANYONE
Most people tell us they wait on renovations because they don't want the stress. We get it. The industry, by nature, is stressful. Those spiking cortisol levels aren't good for anyone. This is why it is so vital to have a team around you who are handling all the things. You should never have to pull a permit, talk to or hire a tradesperson, call your county or inspectors, or worry about what's happening at your home. Your team should be sending weekly updates and photo of the steps along the way, taking the stress off your plate, and handling all the communication and finances through the contractor.
